A Poem by Dani

July 11, 2016 | phil

Dani, a young person living with one of our foster families, shared this poem about foster care...

Foster Care

On the wall to the right, at the top of the main staircase at Family Care's Head Office, there is a handwritten poem framed and wall hung. It is deliberately positioned in one of the busiest spots; staff passing it daily. We often find people pausing there to read it and absorb the messages. It's inspiring and it reminds us why we do the work we do. With Dani's permission, we've decided to share the poem here so that it others can appreciate it too

Foster Care

People think foster care is bad
But you have to think of the positive side
Leaving your family and what you know can be sad
But if you think of the good things it can be a roller coaster ride

My dad was ill so I had to leave
At first it was like a steep hill - all I had to do was believe

I enjoy being in foster care
It's a new life and a new chance
Not liking foster care is very rare
So if I were you I would be brave and give it a chance
