Pride Month has been recognised nationally since 1970, one year after the Stonewall Rebellion which took place on June 28th 1969, commemorating the impact the riots had on society.
To kick off our support, on 25th and 26th May Family Care was proud to support Birmingham Pride in a weekend-long event celebrating Birmingham’s LBGT+ community and the launch of Pride Month.
Thousands of people attended the event throughout the weekend which was Birmingham’s biggest Pride event to date. The Family Care team took great delight in speaking to a number of LGBT+ singles and couples interested in making a difference to a young person’s life.
Family Care Fostering is an avid supporter of LGBT+ rights. There are a small number of barriers for those wishing to become a foster carer, but sexuality is certainly not one of them. Unfortunately, a third of gay people believe their sexuality is a barrier to adoption and fostering, this couldn’t be further from the truth as we highlighted last summer with our article – Am I good enough?
We are a foster care agency that actively promotes inclusivity and diversity and welcomes applications from LGBT+ couples enthusiastically. If you would like to become a foster carer, regardless of status, then please get in touch and learn about the world of difference you can make.
