Holly Scoops Sefton 'No Limits' Award

March 2, 2018 | phil

Last week Holly Huntington, a resident at Links Avenue in Southport Merseyside, received a prestigious Sefton Council ‘No Limits’ Achievement Award for making remarkable and sustained progress in her life…

Holly Huntington was presented with her award by the Mayor at Southport’s Floral Hall on 23 February 2018. People travelled from areas in Sefton, such as Hightown, Formby, Litherland, Blundellsands and Bootle to attend the awards near Liverpool. Holly was given huge credit in recognition of all the barriers she had overcome during her time at Links Avenue – Family Care’s Merseyside based Learning Disabilities service. Holly was thrilled to receive the award and decided the occasion merited a new dress and hair straightening and made a wonderful day of it.

“Holly came to Links Avenue in November 2014 in a very distressed state of mind and she struggling to make any sense of her world,” remarked Geoff Lygo, Registered Manager of Links Avenue. “With the support of the staff team at Links over the last three and a half years, Holly has been able to develop and mature into a capable young woman who can now engage in community-based activities that range from family gatherings, eating out in restaurants, visits to the local hair dresser and choosing her own clothes whilst shopping. Holly is developing effective communication skills, which minimise her isolation and detachment and she is also finding new ways to enjoy life to the full. This is Holly’s remarkable achievement to date and we’re so excited to see where she goes from here.”

Phil Williamson, Co-Owner at Family Care reflected, “This is a great day for Holly. It’s great to see her thrive, grow and improve her life. When children do that with us, as Holly has done and continues to do, it makes everything worthwhile. Holly’s journey over the last three and a half years has been remarkable and she deserves every credit, as do Holly’s family, Geoff and the team around Holly. We’re all tremendously proud.”
