  • "We let the needs of the young person dictate and shape the educational experience that the pupil receives. Eden School provides therapeutic education with a focus on understanding what the child needs before they know that they need it themselves." Head Teacher

Eden School is a very small specialist school for pupils between the ages of 6-16 years who require a bespoke therapeutic curriculum. The School is located within the grounds of Eden House, a therpaeutic children's home for children with learning disabilities. The school offers a nurturing learning environment which is particularly suitable for pupils who struggle to access education in mainstream and larger specialist settings. The school has registration and expertise to support pupils with moderate learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, high levels of anxiety, autism, attachment disorders and PDA.

Our primary goal is to address the complex barriers to learning to enable individual pupils to make maximum progress. All our pupils will have an EHC plan and these are used to create personalised education and behavioural plans and develop a bespoke curriculum. This allows pupils who have previously not coped with school to thrive as the curriculum is planned around their individual needs. At Eden School pupils get involved in shaping their own curriculum and this improves pupil engagement with their learning. The curriculum is delivered in a cross curricular way with digital technology being an important part. iPads are used regularly and film making technologies such as 'green screen' and 'stop motion animation' are used to enhance the teaching of English.

Supporting the wellbeing of each pupil is a core part of what we do and therapeutic approaches are integral to the culture at Eden School.  Our aim is to enable pupils to develop their emotional literacy and social skills alongside their academic skills. This enables them to begin to self-regulate their behaviours and begin to take responsibility for their own learning. Supporting pupils to take an active part in the wider community and to develop their life skills are important elements of our teaching. Regular learning happens outside the classroom and this serves to enhance the curriculum and support pupils to develop their social skills and self-esteem.

KEY STAGE 3 - PARENT

Eden School is a relatively new and exciting development for Family Care. As we do at Access School, we aim to maximise the learning potential of all children that we have the pleasure of teaching. Our staff are highly experienced in working with children with special educational needs which impacts greatly on children's learning in Eden's quiet and unique setting.

As Head Teacher, and in conjunction with the Lead Teacher for Eden School, I will develop the provision for Eden School through a creative, nurturing and therapeutic curriculum tailored to each individual student’s academic, social and emotional need. Pupils are taught by qualified and highly skilled staff and they have routine access to a consultant clinical psychologist and two senior therapists who will advise on our therapeutic provision."
