Stamford House
Stamford House is a registered children's home established in June 1999, offering placements to children aged between 7 and 15 on admission. Residential care is a positive choice for some children who, for whatever reason, are unable to cope within a family. We offer medium to long term placements for children who need to be away from their family environment. We also offer short-term respite for children who need time away from their own family or their foster family.
The function of Stamford House is based on providing a caring, stable and nurturing environment based very much on a family ethos.
We offer children and young people a facilitating environment created through the use of relationships by a skilled and experienced residential staff team supported by therapeutic and education services.
We provide an exceptionally high standard of care for our children and young people, with the emphasis on listening to them and encouraging them to confront their life difficulties, by providing a period of time away in a caring and stable environment.
It is possible to develop new perspectives, which allow for a new resolution to previous problems.
Our philosophy is to allow all children to be met with dignity and respect. We actively encourage and operate an anti-discriminatory establishment and strive to meet any individual’s needs.
The children/young people live in a stable environment: a place where they can feel safe and protected. Staff aim to provide a full and comprehensive structured service within the nurturing environment of a family home.
Children are treated as individuals and equally; regardless of age, gender, race, skin colour, ethnic origin, culture, sexual orientation, disability or religious persuasion.
We believe the young person should be actively involved, appropriate to their age and understanding, in all meetings and decision making in relation to themselves and future plans.
Children will be given the right to privacy and their needs and wishes met.
On admission all young people are encouraged to participate in a semi independent living plan which is ongoing and incorporates basic life skills. As the placement progresses this links to the pathways plan to prepare young people for leaving care.
We encourage children to lead as normal a life as is possible, being actively involved in the home’s ethos.
Opportunities to develop and pursue leisure interests and any special gifts or talents that they have will be encouraged, as will sharing in the activities of their peers.
Even when children and young people are looked after or accommodated for a relatively short period, the aim will be to provide opportunities for development so that the young person can benefit as far as possible from the placement. We also aim to identify the needs of the individual in order to sustain a further successful placement in their future care plans/ placements.
