Our Approach
Family Care Associates have considerable knowledge and expertise working
with children and young people from a wide range of backgrounds, with a
variety of difficulties and attachment issues. We adopt an holistic approach
giving special consideration to each child's social, educational, health
and therapeutic needs.
Understanding issues relating to the child's background, culture, religion and personal circumstances are key factors in helping them develop a sense of belonging in their transition into adulthood. We have enjoyed considerable success in helping to return children to their birth families or finding suitable foster placements which meet the individual's needs.
Our policy is that we are not prepared to undertake a placement unless we are confident that we can deliver the best possible outcome for a child in our care. We believe that we offer best value related to outcomes and we have the track record to prove it.
Attachment Consultancy
Developing therapeutic approaches rooted in attachment theory and research
We believe all children should have genuine opportunites to live rich and fulfilling lives, and develop into healthy, autonomous adults. We work across disciplines with childcare professionals, including social workers, foster-carers, residential staff, educators, criminal justice workers, Health Service staff and CAMHS teams, to develop an appropriate understanding of the place of attachment across the lifespan in the developmental pathways of vulnerable and traumatized children and teenagers. Our work includes training and consultancy to promote holistic, planned therapeutic approaches to recovery from early trauma.
Many of the children referred to Family Care Associates have experienced a number of changes in placement which can compound pre-existing attachment difficulties. Our children's home, Lyth Hill has, over recent years developed a model of working that has proved to be remarkably successful in helping such children settle and subsequently move on to family placements. Alastair Barnett, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, is our Company's Attachment Consultant advising all of our children's homes and Family Placement service bas. Alastair has specialised in clinical child psychology for over 20 years, working in a number of Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services in England.
