Education
Access School: Shrewsbury Area (DfES Registered. Reg No: 893/6096)
Access delivers individual education packages to children and young people placed within the Company's care facilities in the Shropshire area. Places are also available to children and young people who may be living at home or living with other care providers who are experiencing difficulties in their education.
On entry pupils undergo a period of assessment. While the greater emphasis of this assessment is social functioning within the family placement, or residential setting, the education element of assessment is nevertheless as important, for in many instances the pupil's referred will have had very disrupted educational provision and may not have any recorded evidence of progression.
The school follows the National Curriculum and is able to deliver SAT's Assessments and WJEC examinations; associated statutory assessments with an emphasis on outdoor education, in its broadest sense for curriculum delivery. This philosophy is built on the belief and evidence that in pupils who lack self-esteem, utilising this model of delivery not only helps build greater self-confidence but also enables pupils to engage in practical, real experiences that are not always possible within the mainstream classroom whilst maintaining core subject teaching.
